Hobby Boss 1/48 F-14A VF-24 Renegades
This is finally done, just over 18 months later.
I wanted to make an F-14A from VF-24, having seen them on the cover of Air International in about 1997. I finally found the decals from Fightertown and got all the bits together. I decided, on the strength of building the Hobby Boss F-14D, on using the Hobby Boss F-14A. This kit is great, but does need updating in the TCS nose sensor, NACA gun vents and the tail ECM to bring it in line with the VF-24 Tomcats involved in the testing of bomb carriage in 96/97.
Additional pieces to the kit were as follows;
- Quickboost ejection seats
- Steel Beach F-14 update set for Hobby Boss (TCS, NACA vents and tail ECM)
- Eduard AIM-54
- Mk 83 1,000 bombs donated by Foghorn Leghorn
- Wheeliant F-14 wheels
- Fightertown decals
- Humbrol enamels (128 top, 127 undersides and flanks) and Alclad clear gloss and matt coats.
I have rushed it a little so it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I didn't get it as patchy as the real jets were and there's probably sonething I've missed completely. But here it is in all its glory.
